In recognition of the one-year anniversary of the horrific terrorist attack in Israel during which the annihilationist terror organization Hamas killed 1200 people, kidnapped 252, and injured, displaced, and traumatized countless others, let us reflect on what actions VP Kamala Harris has taken to support Israel, its citizens, and the Jewish people.
VP Harris has demonstrated her support to families of hostages countless times since October 7, meeting with and expressing her deep solidarity with and support for the victims and their families, during their captivity and after their release. She invited the family of American hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin to speak at the Democratic National Convention in August 2024, standing up to intense pressure from protestors and undecided delegates who rejected her pro-Israel stance. A few weeks later, when Hamas terrorists murdered Hersh, VP Harris spoke to his parents and issued an official statement unequivocally condemning Hamas and this horrific act.
.
VP Harris has consistently condemned the sexual violence that occurred during the October 7th attacks, while emphasizing the importance of believing Israeli women.
In June 2024, VP Harris hosted an event on conflict-related sexual violence at the White House, during which she screened Sheryl Sandberg’s 10/7 documentary, Screams Before Silence. Before the event, she met with four women and victims of conflict-related sexual violence, including Amit Soussana, an Israeli former hostage and survivor of sexual violence in Hamas captivity.
VP Harris has been in regular communication with the highest-level Israeli officials regarding the conflict, including Prime Minister Netanyahu, President Herzog, Ambassador Herzog, and Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
Most recently, in July, she met with Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House, where she “ reiterated her longstanding and unwavering commitment to the security of the State of Israel and the people of Israel.”
VP Harris has strongly condemned the surge in antisemitism that has occurred since October 7th. In July, she released a statement condemning “any individuals associating with the brutal terrorist organization Hamas, which has vowed to annihilate the State of Israel and kill Jews. Pro-Hamas graffiti and rhetoric is abhorrent and we must not tolerate it in our nation…. I support the right to peacefully protest, but let’s be clear: Antisemitism, hate and violence of any kind have no place in our nation.”
In the face of a pressure campaign calling for an arms embargo against Israel, VP Harris has doubled and tripled down on her support for the people and the state of Israel while on the campaign trail. During her two most important public appearances, the presidential debate and her speech at the Democratic National Convention, as well as on her campaign website, she emphasized Israel’s right to defend itself as well as her commitment to ensuring they have the means to defend themselves
VP Harris’s statement marking one year since the depraved October 7th attacks reiterated the stance she has repeatedly, firmly, and unequivocally taken since then:
“What Hamas did that day was pure evil – it was brutal and sickening. And it has rekindled a deep fear among the Jewish people not just in Israel, but in the United States and around the world.
I am devastated by the loss and pain of the Israeli people as a result of the heinous October 7 attack. Doug and I pray for the families of the victims and hope they find solace in remembering the lives their loved ones lived.”
VP Harris has always stood with the Jewish people and the people of Israel, and has continued to do so loudly and unapologetically throughout this inconceivably difficult year.
