The Importance of Mobilizing the Jewish Vote This Election in Pennsylvania
Why is Pennsylvania so important?
Out of the key seven battleground states, Pennsylvania has the most electoral votes (19!). This means that whichever candidate wins the state will have a sizable margin on the path to Electoral College victory.
In fact, in 11 of the last 13 U.S. Presidential elections, the candidate that won Pennsylvania went on to be elected president.
Where do Pennsylvanians stand?
Registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by just under 350,000 voters.
In the 2020 election, President Biden won in Pennsylvania by 1.17 points. In 2016, former President Trump won by an even smaller margin of 0.73 points. That comes down to less than 45,000 votes.
What about the Jewish vote in Pennsylvania?
There are around 300,000 Jews in Pennsylvania, and they make up around 3% of the electorate. That is over 4 times the margin that allowed Donald Trump to carry the state in 2016, and over twice the margin President Biden had in 2020.
Thus, the Jewish vote in Pennsylvania has the potential to affect the outcome of this election.
Which party do the Jews in Pennsylvania usually support?
A 2021 poll determined that two-thirds (67%) of Jewish Pennsylvanians leaned Democrat. 26% leaned Republican, and 4% Independent.
80% of Pennsylvania’s Jews live in 8 congressional districts, 7 of which are represented by a Democrat.
How can I help reach Jewish voters in Pennsylvania?
The most important thing to do is reach voters with the facts about this Kamala and the election.
We have many resources available on our website that detail Kamala Harris’s consistent record of support for Israel and the Jewish people, as well as Donald Trump and JD Vance’s dangerous positions––for example, the fact that Vance voted against a $15 billion supplemental aid package to Israel just five months ago that VP Harris worked to push through the Senate.
How can I get involved?
The most important thing we can do is get out the pro-Kamala vote! If you are from Pennsylvania, make sure to vote, and reach out to your friends and family as well. There are also several local canvassing and phone-banking movements that are always looking for volunteers!
Check our website for several local canvassing and phone-banking events in PA, and keep an eye out for upcoming Zioness Action Fund opportunities to get involved!
This might be the most important election in our lifetime.
And we have the power to make a difference.
This election is about more than policies, it is about the future of American democracy itself.
Vote now to ensure that you have the right to vote again in the future. Vote for the future of the Jewish community in America, the future of women in America, the future of our planet, our bodies, our lives, and the bodies and lives of those we love.
